This blog has been a long time coming. I first started writing about the challenging first couple months we had, filled with protein allergies, ppd, and overall adjustments. Then the Paris attacks happened and I just couldn't post a blog about all night crying bouts when Syrians were struggling to get out of their country alive and people sitting in cafes in Paris were being gunned down. I then began a blog about my disgust about all these things and how people on social media were using it as excuses to project their own political agendas. But, that still didn't feel right.
So rather than complain about my life or shake my finger at others, I thought why not blog about all the amazing things I am thankful for. I wrote similar posts in years past, and I have to say they are my favorite to write. It reminds me of how I have much more good than bad, and it's also just fun to put into words.
I am thankful for all of Stetson's "sayings", here are a few of my favorites: "What the heck?" "You are FREAKING me out!", "Stop talking to me" (although we are currently trying to discourage that one - it's still funny), "I'm playing hide-and-seek" (code for - taking a poop). "I can't talk about it", "You listening to me?!" - the list goes on, needless to say he's quite the sass - I don’t know where he gets it from??
I'm thankful for tiny, bitty baby smiles. How Vienna smiles so big she clenches her fists by her cheeks it's hard to catch in pictures because he joy blurs the screen! And Kellan, oh kellan - my little screamer, he knows what he wants and he knows how to get it, but if he wants to turn on the charm it's on full blast and his squishy cheeks literally look like they might burst with joy. I also love how Kellan LOVES to have his clothes changed. Every time I try to remove his shirt he giggles his face off. Swoon. I'm thankful for the babes starting to recognize each other- the way they feel comfort when placed next to one another or how they make each other laugh.
I'm thankful for my parents. How I can count on them to help feed the babies while I try to start working out again using their row machine. For my dad, aka the "baby whisperer", how he can take either baby at their worst and get them to sleep in minutes. I'm thankful for my mother, how she has become my friend and likes to be around my kids and keeps me company when I feel like the only humans I have interacted with either don't talk, or they just tell me I'm "freaking" them out.
I'm thankful for Ohio. I can't believe I'm back, I never thought I would be, but now I am and I honestly could not see raising my family anywhere else. I hate being cliche and "moving back home" after starting a family, but this was the right move for us.
I'm thankful for Brad. He's cute to look at and makes me laugh. Sometimes I would love to punch him in the face, but at the end of the day he is the most amazing partner - whether it be his corny (stupid) jokes, or his relationship with Stetson (wrestle mania!). I'm so thankful for his yin to my yang. As I'm crying about the world’s problems, he brings me back to my own world with a joke about preschool. I’m so thankful for his hugs, they comfort me at my worst. Although our dates have gone from spontantious overnight trips to Vegas, to wine and cheese at our kitchen table, he still makes my knees weak. You have been my rock this past year, you changed your entire life just for our family. I could never be more thankful for that.
I'm thankful for my house. I love it. I still catch myself not believing that it's mine. I mean, I own a house! What the wha?????
I'm thankful for my friends. You guys are my soulmates. Each and everyone of you I am so so so lucky to have in my life. Tiffany - who is so close by and our kids get along, and we both like beer and wine. Plus you’re the best witching hour partner-in-crime. Mary for constantly trying to call me while I constantly ignore your calls, and when I finally do answer you have listen to me go on and on and on about my kids and not letting you get a word in, but especially for making me laugh at the most inappropriate things! Lizz - calling 2 times in a row because second time is a charm, and cracking me up over the fact that we still desperately try to act as if we can maintain our past lifestyles by drinking wine just with kids around, instead we find ourselves chasing after them and trying to pacify them. People’s Couch - here we come! Jules and our playdates in which we spend the whole time gossiping while dodging light sabers from our boys who love each other. Mag and her ability to relate to me and all my parenting woes. Sunni - thank you teaching me about quesadillas and still being slightly inappropriate at all times, and for our text messages because they make me smile. For Jeremy, I don’t think you realize how much texting you about your dramatic life, back and forth from Italy and so on, helped me on my third day in the ER with Kellan. After spending days crying (all of us) with no sleep in the ER, it was the best distraction hearing about your grandious - while always confusing - life:) I’m thankful for Kelly - also with the texts, but even though we don’t get to talk as much as we used to, I’m so grateful to hear about your dates and just to hear your voice, I’m also thankful for all of Brenden’s old clothes! For Russi, coming back into my life and not skipping a beat - I love that.
I’m thankful for my Uncle Tom, for coming over and mowing our lawn, as well as visiting the babes, I don’t know how our yard would look at all presentable this year without you!
I’m thankful for my sister. Not only does Stetson love his cousins, but you taking him from time to time is such a nice relief. I know the kids have seperate schedules now but it’s still nice to know you will be there.
I’m thankful for my brother and Sara. I love your random drop in’s. I’m also thankful for how much Stetson loves you guys. The way Sara plays with him like she is one of his friends’ really brightens his night!
I’m thankful for Aunt Becky and how much she helps when she visits. That, and, Stetson can’t get enough of Aunt “Zeki” (he’ll figure it out someday!)
I’m thankful for Nana and Bobbob. We can’t wait to spend Thanksgiving with both of you! You are so generous and kind, we can’t wait to have this time to spend together.
I’m thankful for Uncle Aaron and Aunt Becky - their ability to “know how it is” is such a treat when talking. Now if only they could get Korben to teach Stetson about this whole potty thing!
I’m thankful for the Eagle’s Nest at Giant Eagle, I love dropping Stetson off and having the liberty to navigate the store with just my babes, who, at this point, don’t scream at me for not buying them a cup with Olaf on it. So I guess I’m thankful the babes don’t have tantrums! On that note, I’m thankful for Stetson for sleeping through the night and being an overall well adjusted 3 year old. I’m so thankful for Stetson’s kindness and his ability to be empathetic to us and his siblings, his kind heart really gets me to my core!
I’m thankful for Bravo TV, as much as Brad hates it, Andy and his gang have gotten me through some long sleepless nights.
I’m thankful for Zeki - his unwavering love for all of us is unwarranted considering the amount of attention he gets these days.
I’m sitting here on the week of thanksgiving, I find myself crying over Syria, and posts about friends who’s children are sick and I really have no choice but to be thankful, so very, very, very thankful. If I have forgotten anyone (which I know I have), it’s not because I’m not so thankful, it’s because Kellan still wakes up 3 times a night :)
Wishing all of you the best Thanksgiving ever!
Peace, love and honeycrisp apples
Brigid, Brad, Stetson, Kellan, Vienna and Zeki
